BROTH: Soup Exchange

5 October 2018

6-8pm

Text

‘I want to be there in the kitchen, as you cook; my words are merely my side of the conversation I imagine we might have.’ – Nigella Lawson, Nigella Bites (2001)

The recipe was a script for action and transformation, inviting both future imaginings and details of past activity, touching on cooking as a memory device.

As part of Ways of Learning and Octobers edition of Digbeth First Friday, Kirsty Clarke shared a series of recipes for nourishing one-pot ‘wonders’, all with personal connections to the participants and artists involved in Ways of Learning, as well as the Grand Union team. These texts were accompanied with a warming bowl of soup, served from the mobile studio kitchen housed in the gallery throughout the project.
