Precarity Centre: Ioanna Pantazopoulou in conversation with Ruth Claxton

6 February 2016

Ioanna Pantazopoulou creates ephemeral sculptural monuments and installations out of unwanted and discarded materials. The sculptures ‘follow the principles of architecture without being trapped in them’.

In two weeks, Ioanna created a new sculpture on site at Grand Union. As with previous works, Ioanna opts to work with the materials provided or in the vicinity of where she is working.

In this case, They Are Here sourced 600kg of scrap foam from a local supplier Glendale Foam Fibre (on Barn St – just opposite Minerva Works).

Ioanna Pantazopoulou b.1984 in Athens, Greece and currently lives and works in New York. She received both her BA (2007) and MA (2009) in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art and Design, London, U.K.

Ruth Claxton is an artist, Associate Director at Eastside Projects and co-producer of the Birmingham Art Map with Cheryl Jones and in the process of co-establishing a new fabrication centre, Workshop Birmingham, a resource for makers in the city.
