Joyce Treasure

Joyce Treasure is a mixed media artist currently living in Bearwood, Birmingham. She relocated from London to embark on a BA (Hons) Black Studies course at Birmingham City University to underpin her practice as an artist. She works in layers and body forms to slice cultural and iconic imagery together using collage, print, acrylic and assemblage around the topic of black identity.

“Learning to be more of a critical thinker, I am interested in asking questions regarding societies parameters and limitations. Posing an uncomfortable question can sometimes make us feel awkward and uneasy, but it is here that we might come to understand one another in a way that is not so destructive and manipulating. We are all essentially connected, and I seek to make art that ultimately evokes that sense.”
