Digbeth Access Group was brought together in response to works preparing the HS2 lines and station into Birmingham, cutting off both pedestrian and road routes into Digbeth from the city centre.
The group includes representatives from Birmingham City Council, Grand Union, Intervention Architecture, Oval, and Friends of the Earth.
The members of Digbeth Access group have worked collaboratively, bringing Grand Union and Intervention Architecture’s creative knowledge and skills into play, to design a lighting wayfinding scheme that guides pedestrians from the city centre down to different areas of Digbeth.
This coming together to find a community-led, creative solution to a shared problem, has resulted in the design of a useful and dynamic lighting scheme, which also addresses pedestrian safety and access.
The scheme has been green-lit for HS2 funding, and will be installed by Birmingham City Council in 2024.
