Join us as part of Birmingham Heritage Week 2019 for a unique opportunity to tour inside two historic buildings in Digbeth, Birmingham: Junction Works and Banana Warehouse.
Junction Works (the former Canal Offices for Birmingham) is a Grade II listed building located in the Warwick Bar Conservation Area of Birmingham, situated at the intersection of the Grand Union Canal and Digbeth Branch Canal. It is comprised of three connected buildings, together with an additional single storey wing and cobbled yard. The strong industrial character of the buildings and blue brickwork serve as a focal point in Fazeley Street. The tour will also include a look around the also listed Banana Warehouse, which was famously used by Geest Fruit Traders to store and distribute fruit.
Grand Union is currently leading a £3.25m project to bring the Junction Works building back to life, working with Homes England, we will transform the derelict building into a new contemporary art gallery and artist studios. Working with the Artist Duo Cooking Sections the building is currently home to The Franchise of The Empire Remain Shop which is a project exploring Grand Union’s reanimation of this building, reinstating the public’s relationship to this historic site.
