Are you a Midlands-based artist or creative practitioner working through new concepts, planning a future artistic project or wanting to road test a new idea? We’d love to talk to you!
Grand Union is offering ten paid virtual ‘One-to-Ones’ over Zoom in February. We would love to hear about your creative practice and motivations. These hour-long relaxed and informal sessions will offer us an opportunity to meet folks working in the Midlands and give friendly support, creating a space to test ideas and problem solve. We will accept applications from all creative disciplines.
If selected, each artist will be paired with a Grand Union team member and receive £50. Five of these sessions are exclusively for Black artists*.

How to apply
Send us a letter (1 x A4 max), video or voice memo (3 mins max) – whichever you are comfortable with, that:
- Gives us a brief introduction to yourself and your creative practice.
- Tells us what you’d wish to discuss in the session.
- Outline why you are interested in applying.
Please include no more than 3 images, short film clips, sound recordings or writing extracts of recent work.

Please DO NOT include your CV – it will not be considered. Please put all the relevant information into your letter/video/voice note.

Who is Grand Union?
Grand Union is a gallery and artists’ studios complex in Digbeth, Birmingham. We are a welcoming organisation, bringing the public closer to art and artists. We host a free programme of public exhibitions and events, and our building is home to 25 artists in the studios. We support learning, creating numerous contexts for art and life to intersect. Our work places emphasis on the importance of collaboration and long-term artistic research with many projects taking place outside of the gallery, across the city of Birmingham through our Collaborative Programme.
