10–11 October 2014

Marcia Farquhar will be inhabiting her exhibition ‘Larger than Life’ at Grand Union, adding works and bringing it to life with talks, performances and screenings. See below for a timetable of events.

Friday 10 October

12–5pm

Join us for tea/coffee with Marcia who will host an informal day in the gallery where she will be performing a chocolate melting ritual and screening Attack of the 50 Foot Woman.

6-8pm

Artist Reynir Hutber presents ‘The Small Other’ a performance responding to ‘Larger than Life’. Using the malleability of digital imagery Hutber explores anxieties around authenticity and presence while remaining appropriately self-reflective.

Gallery closes 8pm.

Saturday 11 October

12–3pm

Marcia will lead a pilgrimage to the sights of Jane ‘Jinny’ Bunford, a Birmingham woman who lived in Bartley Green and is the tallest woman recorded in English medical history.

The tour is free, but booking is essential as places are limited. The tour will leave the gallery at 12pm sharp, returning by 3pm for tea and coffee at the gallery.

Please email info@grand-union.org.uk to book your place.

3pm

Open mic! Come along and present your views/performances/music related to scale.

5–7pm

Artist Jem Finer will give a presentation titled ‘The Long and the Short of It’ in response to the exhibition, followed by a selected screening of films he has gathered on the subject.

Much of his work relates to extremes of scale and attempts to comprehend his place, as an average sized human being, between the microscopic realms of particle physics and the immensities of time and space.

In this presentation he will delve into these realms, on the one hand “larger than life” and on the other the merest speck.

Gallery closes 8pm.
