Join us for Digbeth First Friday on 6 November as we once again join forces with Nomad for a unique evening of dining and art, continuing a collaboration which brings together the exciting culinary skills of Nomad chefs and intertwines them with elements of our programme.
In November we welcome two new artists-in-residence to Grand Union, Cristobal Gracia (Mexico City) and Katharina Ludwig (Berlin). In collaboration with the artists the Nomad chefs have designed a menu of tailor-made tapas dishes and cocktails, bringing in elements of traditional dishes from their home countries. Both artists will be present on the evening with performances and talks relating to their practices, using the food as a key element.
Diners can choose how they experience the evening, either by purchasing a ticket for three courses plus a cocktail and a chance to sit down and talk with the artists, or by dipping in and out of the gallery space, enjoying individual tapas-style dishes and cocktails on a more informal basis.
Menu:
— Spätzle, wild mushrooms, onion puree, crispy garden sage, grated egg yolk ~ £4.5
— “Sauerkraut” smoked haddock, cockle popcorn, sloe chutney ~ £5
— Gorditas, venison, red cabbage, buckthorn and chipotle aioli ~ £5.5
— Queso Fresca, sweetcorn, squash, bilberries and coriander ~ £4.5
— Rice pudding, hazelnuts, walnuts and hottentot fig ~ £4
Grand Union and Nomad’s relationship began in June this year with our very successful collaborative 7 Artists x 7 Plates event, which saw the chefs working with our studio artists to design tailor-made dishes related to their practices which were served in the individual artists’ studios. This event marks the continuation of our unique relationship, with a year-long planned programme of food events mixing artistic practice with culinary experimentation, drawing links between two diverse ways of working.
